I bought new name-brand hoses for my xB about 5 years ago thinking I had a coolant leak. It turned out to be another car in the parking lot leaking and perfectly running down to the low-spot under where I always parked. So I left the hoses in the rockauto box and put them on a shelf in the garage.
Now I do seem to have a small leak. Would you install 5 year old hoses or buy new ones? They haven’t been exposed to UV or coolant so I’m not sure if they’d have degraded or would be fine.

Inspect them. Chances are they’re fine.

Are they rubber or silicone? I'd say you'd be fine with silicone, and I'd just check out the rubber ones. Chances are without any exposure to damaging forces they should be okay as well.

If they haven’t been exposed to UV or undue heat cycling they’re almost certainly fine. Plenty of rubber parts that live more sheltered lives than those under car hoods last for decades...bicycle inner tubes can hold air for many years assuming they don’t get punctured.

Pretty sure theyh’d prob be fine - inspect them anyway, but they’ve been stored away cleanly and neatly with nothing to hurt them or degrade them, so they should be OK.

Exactly what I was going to say. They are probably just fine.

I work in Auto Parts. Do you know how many Gates hoses we’ve had on the shelf for 5+ years that have gone unsold? You’re fine
